Tips for spotting an unauthorized retailer.

Identifying Scam Websites

We value every member of our Effy family and family looks out for each other. That’s why we want to help you exercise internet safety. There have been reports of fake online businesses offering what appears to be Effy Jewelry at very low prices. In most cases, once customers place orders with these fake sites, they receive no further contact and do not receive their order. Should any of these fake websites complete an order, it is not authentic Effy Jewelry and far from the standards and quality produced by Effy. Many of these fake businesses also utilize social media to draw visitors to their sites. Oftentimes they copy and reuse our imagery and advertisement to look legitimate.

Before making a purchase on one of these sites, we have a few tips to help ensure its legitimacy.

Firstly, Effy Jewelry only sells online at www.effyjewelry.com, or at authorized dealers, which are typically major department stores and renowned jewelry retailers. 

We only work with retailers that offer secure payment services from major credit cards or Paypal. We never offer greater discounts in exchange for a direct deposit. At Effy we take great care to handcraft each piece, which is why the uncharacteristically low prices promoted on other sites indicate a scam. By avoiding these unauthorized sites, you are helping to protect your personal identification and financial information. If you are ever in doubt, please contact our customer service for assistance. 

How does the scam work?

Scammers use the latest technology to set up fake websites that look like genuine online retail stores. They may use sophisticated designs, possibly stolen logos, and even a “.com” domain name.

Many of these websites offer luxury items such as popular brands of clothing, jewelry and electronics at very low prices. If you receive your order at all, it will be inauthentic. Many sites may still send confirmation emails or messages with fake tracking details in a further attempt to mislead customers.

The biggest tip-off that a retail website is fraudulent is the method of payment. Scammers will often ask you to pay using a money order, pre-loaded money card, or wire transfer. If you send your money this way, it’s most likely too late to recoup your loss or receive the order.

How are we taking action?

As soon as we become aware of a scam website, we notify the appropriate authorities. We use any legal means available to have these sites taken down.
